Mar 2 Strategic Narrative Development: OptimizeWayne Social Entrepreneur Pitches

This year’s OptimizeWayne Social Innovation Challenge involves 25 teams of over 120 students answering the question, "Why not me?" and taking action on self-directed projects supported by the WSU and Detroit-area economic development ecosystem. These teams will pitch for funding to help their social enterprises and impacts thrive. On March 2, 2019, Nicole de Beaufort and Mary Aviles conducted a workshop with hopeful Optimizers in preparation for their pitches.

Mary Aviles

A staunch advocate for people within the systems that impact them, Mary Aviles has dedicated the past two decades to asking questions and translating the answers for multiple audiences. As a user experience researcher, she partners closely with designers, developers, growth, and marketing to provide human experience-informed insights–stewarding better decisions, improving alignment, reducing risk, and driving change. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Mary’s work has spanned the civic tech, data visualization, early childhood and higher education, health care, non-profit, and technology sectors. Her research projects have amplified thousands of academic, community, consumer, professional, and patient voices. At home, she trials observation, project management, and behavioral nudges on her three children and an occasionally juicy French bulldog.
