Strategy, Integrated Communications

The opioid overdose epidemic is a national public health crisis. In Michigan, more people died from overdose deaths than car crashes with approximately five Michiganders dying every day due to opioid overdoses.

The Michigan Opioid Partnership, a public-private collaborative managed by the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, is focused on decreasing Michigan opioid overdoses and deaths through prevention, treatment, harm reduction and sustained recovery.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As the number of hospitals participating in the Emergency Department Medication for Opioid Use Disorder treatment initiative grew from six hospitals (during the pilot) to nearly 40 hospitals (and growing) in less than two years. CFSEM’s MOP team partnered with EarlyWorks during this critical time of expansion to proactively provide information and share resources with hospitals and key stakeholders involved in this effort.

EARLYWORKS’ SUPPORT INCLUDES:

  • Design and copywriting for MOP Initiatives web pages on CFSEM’s website

  • Storytelling that highlights impact, peer examples and context for the work.

  • Write and manage two monthly newsletters—one for grantees and one for an opt-in audience.

  • Strategic counsel for partner promotional activities to recruit hospital emergency physicians, administrators and staff through trusted medical associations.

EarlyWorks has been a critical partner throughout the growth of our health and wellness work. From helping us develop the right strategies to address the ongoing opioid epidemic to managing our communications for the Michigan Opioid Partnership, they have been responsive, thoughtful, and innovative in their approach.
