The Poynter Institute Workshop: Covering the 2020 Census
Mary Aviles was fortunate to be able to attend this intensive two-day training via The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan—EarlyWorks’ client and event co-sponsor. The Community Foundation is one of Michigan’s 13 regional hubs supporting local efforts for a complete and accurate count, for which trusted community voices play a vital role. This Poynter Institute workshop was “tailored for reporters and editors with the sources, background, context and data skills they need to accurately and vigorously cover how the U.S. government counts its residents.” Instructors included Pew Research senior writer and editor, D’Vera Cohn and former US Census Bureau director, John Thompson, among others.
